Financial advisor website design that says what a practice will not claim

Forty-eight pages for a fee-only planning practice in Queens. Every fee is published in one table and added up in worked examples, the written plan is explained from the first meeting to the questions afterwards, and the enquiry form asks for a name, a way to reply, a topic and a time of the week, and nothing about the visitor's money. It lands in an inbox; nothing is booked and nothing is stored.

  • 8 planning pages, from retirement and education to business owners, insurance and estate questions
  • 6 journal articles on fee-only pay, the written plan, first-meeting questions, checking an adviser, saving for college and retiring from a city job
  • 16 pages on what a planning practice should not claim, why nothing here is advice, and how the pictures were made

Demonstration site. Woodside Keelwick Planning, LLC is a fictional business invented for this demo — every phone number on it is literally 000-000-0000. The website itself is entirely real and built exactly as yours would be.

Why this design works for a fee-only financial planning

Built for how your customers actually decide

Most adviser websites open with a promise about the visitor's future. This design opens with what the practice does and what it costs. A written plan is a flat fee billed in two halves, questions afterwards are by the hour with a written estimate first, and a year of planning is billed after each quarter and ends by itself. Every fee sits in one table, and three worked examples add up a household's first year from the same numbers, so the page and the agreement can never disagree.

The law shaped the copy. In New York a practice paid to advise on investments registers as an investment adviser, its planners register too, and its advertising follows the SEC's marketing rule: no performance, no projections, no testimonials or ratings without the disclosures the rule requires. So the site shows none, says why on a page of its own, and tells a visitor how to look up any real adviser. A first meeting that costs nothing carries its conditions in the same sentence, as New York City requires, and no fee is ever shown cut from a price nobody paid.

And it draws the lines a careful practice draws. A plan writes questions down for the client's CPA, insurance agent and attorney, and goes no further; it never reviews a policy for a fee, drafts a will or prepares a return. The enquiry form has no message box, so nobody sends an account number through it, and the practice holds no client money. Thirteen pages quote what adviser websites commonly say, from 'fiduciary advisors who always put your best interest first' to 'beaten the market year after year', and answer each claim with the rule and its source.

  • No results, no projections, no stars

The site shows no returns, no chart of a future balance and no client praise. A real practice can show some of these only with the disclosures the SEC's marketing rule requires; a demonstration has nothing true to show, so it says so.

  • Every fee adds up

Five fees in one table, billed in arrears or in two halves, and never more than three months ahead. The worked examples are built from the same numbers, so a household can check its own first year.

  • Where the plan stops

Tax, insurance and estate questions are written down for the client's CPA, agent and attorney. The practice sells nothing, holds nobody's money and reviews no policy for a fee.

  • An enquiry that asks nothing about money

The form asks who to reply to, what about and when; it has no box for a message, so no account number can arrive through it. The e-mail is the only copy.

Mobile first, not mobile afterthought

Most of your visitors will see this version

Local service searches are overwhelmingly done on phones, so the phone layout is the one we design first and test hardest. Text stays readable without zooming, the phone number stays reachable with a thumb, and nothing needs a horizontal scroll.

Every page, listed

What is actually on the site

48 indexable pages, each with its own title, description, structured data and a place in the sitemap. That is 48 chances to appear in a search instead of one.

Eight planning pages

  • Retirement, saving for education, cash flow and saving, and planning for business owners, each a written plan at a published fee
  • A year of planning: two meetings, questions by e-mail and the plan kept current, billed after each quarter
  • Tax-aware investing, insurance and estate questions, each written down for the licensed professional whose work it is

Fees, said in full

  • One table of five published fees, the same for everybody, and a first meeting that is not one of them
  • When each fee is billed, how an agreement ends, and what is refunded
  • Three worked examples that add up a household's first year from the same fees
  • No percentage of assets, no commission and no referral fee, with the pull each way of being paid still named

A first-meeting enquiry, not a booking

  • Name, e-mail, an optional telephone, a topic, the office or video, and a time of the week
  • No message box and no question about income, accounts, health or family
  • Sent by e-mail to the office and never stored on the website; the visitor gets a reference
  • Rate-limited, and with JavaScript off the page still says what the meeting is and where to write instead

Thirteen pages on what a planning practice should not claim

  • 'A registered investment adviser, approved by the SEC', 'Our certified planners hold every major designation', 'Fiduciary advisors who always put your best interest first', 'Beaten the market year after year', 'See exactly how much you will have at retirement', 'Guaranteed income for life'
  • 'Five-star rated, award-winning', 'We're fee-only, so there are no conflicts', 'Let us move your savings into the right annuity', 'A free insurance review', 'Wills, trusts and tax returns, all done in-house', 'A free retirement income review over dinner', 'Upload your statements'
  • Each is quoted as adviser websites advertise it, and answered with the rule and a source

A journal of plain answers

  • What fee-only does and does not mean, what a written plan holds, questions for a first meeting, how to look up an adviser, saving for college in New York, and the questions to ask before retiring from a city job

What $500 covers

Yours, not a copy of the demo

You get the same structure and design system with your business in it — your name, logo, colours, photographs, services, prices and locations, and every page rewritten for you. Two businesses starting from this design do not end up looking like each other.

Pages you do not need come out. Pages you need that are not there can be added at $90 each. The local SEO — titles, descriptions, structured data and the copy itself — is retargeted from Woodside to wherever you actually work.

Who this suits

A good fit if you run one of these

  • Fee-only and flat-fee planning practices
  • Advisers who publish their fees and want them added up for a visitor
  • Practices serving renters, city workers, business owners and families sending money abroad
  • Planners who meet in more than one language
  • Practices tired of competing with 'beat the market' websites

Not quite your trade? Designs adapt more easily than people expect — the structure matters far more than the industry it was written for. Tell us what you do and we will say honestly whether this one fits.

Questions

About this design

Can our registration and CRD numbers go on the site?

Yes, and they should, with a link to your Form ADV and to the SEC's adviser search. This demonstration is a fictional practice, so it holds no registration and has a page explaining what a real one holds and how to check it.

Can we show performance or client testimonials?

Only within the SEC's marketing rule: performance with the required periods and net of fees, testimonials with their disclosures and your oversight. This demonstration shows none, because nothing about an invented practice could be true.

We charge a percentage of assets.

Then the fee table says so in dollars at a few account sizes, and the fee-only page names the pull that kind of fee has. This demonstration charges flat and hourly fees to show the plainest version.

Does the form collect financial details?

No. Name, e-mail, an optional telephone, a topic, the office or video and a time of the week. There is no message box, and the site asks visitors not to send account numbers by e-mail either.

Are the pictures of a real office?

No. Every picture was generated and says so on the picture. Nobody appears in any of them, and there is no chart, screen, money, certificate or anything legible. Your own photographs replace them.
