The industry answer is "anywhere from a week to three months", which is true and useless. The useful answer depends on what kind of site, who is building it, and, more than anything, how ready you are.
What the 2026 guides say
Bluehost's 2026 timeline guide puts a builder-made site at one week to three months, a standard custom business site at one to three weeks, and an e-commerce site at four to eight weeks because of product pages, payments, checkout and testing. Agency guides tend to quote four to eight weeks for a custom small-business site and longer for anything with integrations. Freelancers often say four to six weeks for a five-page site.
Every guide names the same delay factors: complexity, build method, content readiness, design requirements, technical features, team size and approval cycles. Bluehost puts it bluntly: if copy, images and calls to action are not ready, the project stalls.
Our timelines, in business days
We work to fixed scopes, so we can publish the timelines rather than estimate them.
| What you are buying | Typical time to live | Why it takes that long |
|---|---|---|
| Ready-made website, rebuilt around your business | About 5 business days | The design and every page already exist; the week goes on your content, branding, local SEO and launch. |
| Custom landing page (Starter) | About 7 business days | One page designed from scratch, one approval round, copy polishing, SEO and launch. |
| Ready-made site with a booking application | About 10 business days | The site plus a working booking system, staff admin and email flows, configured for your hours and services. |
| Custom company website, up to 7 pages (Business) | About 14 business days | Sitemap and visual direction approved first, then design, build, copy, on-page SEO for every page, analytics and Search Console. |
| Custom WooCommerce store (Commerce) | About 21 business days | Everything above plus payments, shipping rules, up to 50 products, product schema, test orders and owner training. |
"Live" means live on your domain, with hosting and SSL running. Not a preview link, not "ready for content".
Where the time actually goes
A fourteen-day company website looks like this from the inside:
- Day 0: brief and quote. You fill in a short brief or call us. You have a fixed written quote and a plan within 24 hours.
- Days 1 to 3: direction. We send the sitemap and visual direction for approval. Nothing is built until you say yes, which is why this step is the one that most often slips: it waits for a decision.
- Days 4 to 9: design, build and content. Pages come together on a private preview link you can watch. Your text is polished; images are placed and optimized.
- Days 10 to 12: SEO and testing. Titles, descriptions and structured data on every page, speed checks, mobile testing on real screen sizes, the contact form tested end to end.
- Days 13 to 14: launch. Domain, hosting, SSL, sitemap submitted, Search Console verified, analytics wired. Then thirty days of free fixes begin.
The five things that add weeks
- Content that is not ready. Text still being written, prices still being decided, photographs "coming next week". This is the number one delay in every guide and in our experience.
- Decisions by committee. Three partners with three opinions on the colour of a button. One decision-maker per side is worth a week.
- No access to the domain. If the domain was registered years ago by a nephew, find the login before the project starts.
- Scope changes mid-build. "While you are at it" is how a two-week project becomes a six-week one. Write the extras down for phase two.
- Photography. Good photographs take time to shoot or source. Decide early whether you are using yours, stock, or the imagery we generate.
How to be the client whose site launches on time
Have your business details, services and prices in one document. Choose your photographs, or tell us you have none and we will handle it. Name one person who approves things. Answer the two approval emails within a day. Do that, and the timelines in the table hold.
After launch is not the end
Thirty days of free fixes cover what you spot once real customers use the site. Indexing is a separate clock: Google crawls and indexes over weeks, and rankings for competitive searches build over months, which is why every site we ship has its SEO and GEO foundation in place on day one rather than bolted on later.
If you would rather have a date than an estimate, tell us what you need. The quote comes back within 24 hours, with the launch date on it.
Questions people ask
Frequently asked
Can a website really be live in a week?
Yes, when the structure already exists. Our ready-made sites launch in about five business days because every page is already written and the design is finished; the week goes on rebuilding it around your business, registering the domain and launching. A custom one-page site takes about seven business days for the same reason: one page, one design, one round of approval.
What is the single biggest cause of delay?
Content. Every guide we cite says the same thing, and our experience agrees: the site waits for text, photographs and decisions far more often than it waits for design or code. Have your services, prices and images ready before the project starts and the timeline holds.
Does a faster build mean lower quality?
Not when speed comes from process rather than corner-cutting. A fixed scope, a finished design system, an efficient AI-assisted workflow and one decision-maker on each side are what make a two-week site possible. The technical foundation, SEO, structured data, speed and mobile testing, is the same on every build.
How long until the new site shows up on Google?
Launch and indexing are different events. Google usually crawls a new site within days and indexes the main pages over the following weeks; rankings for competitive searches build over months. We submit the sitemap and verify Search Console at launch so the process starts on day one, but no honest provider promises a ranking date.
