Catering website design with online ordering by the guest

Fifty-seven pages for a Queens caterer that delivers office breakfasts, lunches and hot buffets and staffs weddings and parties, and the software such a kitchen runs on: drop-off orders priced by the guest and by the tray, a delivery window from a van that is free at that time, New York City sales tax on its own line, an allergy call from the kitchen before anything is made, events that start as an enquiry, and kitchen screens. Nothing is paid on the website.

  • 13 drop-off and event pages, each with its own menu or price guide
  • 45 dishes and six packages, each priced by the guest or the tray
  • 13 pages on what a caterer should not claim
  • Online catering orders by the guest, event enquiries + kitchen screens

Demonstration site. Woodside Larder Catering, LLC is a fictional business invented for this demo — every phone number on it is literally 000-000-0000. The website itself is entirely real and built exactly as yours would be.

Why this design works for a caterer

Built for how your customers actually decide

A caterer's website is read by someone ordering lunch for a meeting, usually the day before. So on this design every dish says what it costs a guest and what a tray serves, the order form suggests how many trays a head count needs, and the running total shows the food, the sales tax and the total before anything is sent. A ZIP code brings up the delivery days and the half-hour windows a van is still free for, and the order closes at one cut-off: noon on the kitchen day before.

New York taxes catered food whether it arrives hot or cold, so the tax is its own line on every total, every sample order and every confirmation. Delivery is included, with one minimum per area and no small-order fee. An order can be changed or cancelled free until its cut-off, and after that cancelling costs half the food, never more. Plates and cutlery come only if you tick the box, as New York City asks, and the order form carries the city's allergy notice, nine allergen boxes and one short line, and an allergy brings a telephone call from the kitchen.

And the caterer claims only what it can. No letter grade, no permit number, no 'nut-free kitchen', no 'gluten-free' or kosher label, no alcohol, no open flame at a drop-off, no service charge. Staff hours at an event are priced as staff hours and said not to be a tip. Thirteen pages quote what caterers commonly advertise and answer each with the rule and its source.

  • Priced by the guest and by the tray

Every dish carries its price a guest or a tray and what a half and a full tray serve, so the order form can suggest the trays for a head count, and every sample order is worked out by the same engine the order form uses.

  • Sales tax on its own line

New York taxes catered food whether it arrives hot or cold. So every price says it is before tax, and every total on the site, in the form and in the confirmation shows the food, the 8.875% tax and the total.

  • What a recipe contains, not what a kitchen is free of

A kitchen that uses wheat, nuts and sesame every day cannot promise a dish free of them. The menu says what each recipe contains, carries New York's allergy notice, and an allergy on an order brings a telephone call before anything is cooked.

  • Events start with a conversation

Above sixty guests, or with staff, the order form hands over to an enquiry. Event prices are guide ranges by service style, staff hours are priced as hours and said not to be a tip, and there is no service charge.

Mobile first, not mobile afterthought

Most of your visitors will see this version

Local service searches are overwhelmingly done on phones, so the phone layout is the one we design first and test hardest. Text stays readable without zooming, the phone number stays reachable with a thumb, and nothing needs a horizontal scroll.

Every page, listed

What is actually on the site

57 indexable pages, each with its own title, description, structured data and a place in the sitemap. That is 57 chances to appear in a search instead of one.

Nine drop-off pages

  • Office lunches, corporate breakfasts, boxed lunches, sandwich and wrap platters and hot buffet trays
  • Salads and sides, desserts and afternoon trays, drinks and coffee, and packages priced by the guest
  • Each with its dishes, what a guest costs and what a half or full tray serves
  • Sample orders for twelve to forty guests, each with its tax line and total

Four event pages, by enquiry

  • Weddings, events with service staff, cocktail receptions and private parties
  • Guide prices per guest as ranges, by service style, and staff by the hour
  • The venue's own permits described, never vouched for
  • No bar and no pouring, said plainly, with what to ask a venue

Ordering, the way a kitchen works

  • One cut-off, noon on the kitchen day before; two days for forty guests or the slower dishes
  • Two delivery areas, each with its own minimum and window length
  • Free changes and cancellation until the cut-off, half the food after it
  • Sales tax at 8.875% on its own line, and delivery included

Allergies, honestly

  • New York's allergy notice on every menu page and the order form
  • Nine allergen boxes and a telephone call before the food is made
  • What a recipe contains, never what a kitchen is free of
  • No gluten-free, nut-free, kosher or halal labels, and a page on why

Thirteen pages on what a caterer should not claim

  • 'A-rated by the Health Department', 'Permits handled', 'Open bar packages', 'Nut-free kitchen'
  • 'A 20% service charge is added', 'Tax included', 'Food safe for four hours', '30% off your first order'
  • Each is quoted as caterers advertise it, and answered with the law and a source
  • A list of refusals, each linked to the page that gives its reasons

A journal of plain answers

  • How much food a guest needs, ordering for an office, telling a caterer about allergies, how long food can sit out, what to ask a venue, buffet or plated, and what catering costs

Included — not an add-on

Online catering orders, event enquiries and kitchen screens

Forty-five dishes and six packages, each priced by the guest or the tray. An order holds a head count, its lines and a delivery window, and every window draws on two vans and a kitchen that cooks for three hundred guests a day. The website, the e-mailed order page and the kitchen screens all read the same database, and the rules are written once for the page and once for the server, then checked against each other.

What your customers do

  • Order for ten to sixty guests by the guest and by the tray, with trays suggested for the head count
  • Pick a delivery day and a window a van is still free for, from the ZIP code
  • Tell the kitchen about an allergy and get a telephone call before the food is made
  • Change or cancel from the order's own page, with the cost of cancelling printed before the button
  • Above sixty guests, or with staff, send an event enquiry instead

What your staff control

  • Today's deliveries by window and van, with every allergy shown in red
  • A prep sheet for the day: every dish, in trays and portions
  • Take a telephone order through the same rules as the website
  • Answer an enquiry, book a staffed event and close a day
  • The kitchen sees the day; the managers see the business

What happens automatically

  • A reminder the day before the cut-off, and a staff task for every allergy call
  • Two people reaching for the last van at the same second produce one order and one plain answer — a database lock, proved by racing them
  • Cancelled orders deleted after ninety days, delivered ones after three years
  • No answer ever says whether an address or an e-mail already has an order

The software runs on your own hosting and belongs to you. There is no monthly licence, no per-booking commission and no third party holding your customer list — which over a few years is usually worth more than the price of the website.

What $890 covers

Yours, not a copy of the demo

You get the same structure and design system with your business in it — your name, logo, colours, photographs, services, prices and locations, and every page rewritten for you. Two businesses starting from this design do not end up looking like each other.

Pages you do not need come out. Pages you need that are not there can be added at $90 each. The local SEO — titles, descriptions, structured data and the copy itself — is retargeted from Woodside to wherever you actually work.

Who this suits

A good fit if you run one of these

  • Caterers delivering office breakfasts and lunches
  • Kitchens that sell trays and packages by the guest
  • Caterers who also staff weddings and parties
  • Businesses delivering in more than one area, each with its own minimum
  • Kitchens that want every allergy order to start with a call

Not quite your trade? Designs adapt more easily than people expect — the structure matters far more than the industry it was written for. Tell us what you do and we will say honestly whether this one fits.

Questions

About this design

Can customers pay online?

Not in this demonstration. The order is confirmed by e-mail and paid on invoice, and the kitchen screens record the payment. Online payment brings in a payment provider and its own rules on deposits and refunds — a real conversation, and one we are happy to have.

Can the menu change every week?

Yes. The managers can take a dish off for a week from the staff screens, and the order form stops offering it at once. New dishes and new prices are added once, and every page, sample and total follows.

Can it handle more than one delivery area?

Yes. This design has two, each with its own minimum, window length and days, and each ZIP code belongs to one. Yours can have as many as you deliver to.

Can we say our food is gluten-free or kosher?

Gluten-free is a word with a legal threshold, and kosher and halal are claims New York regulates; this design uses none of them. If your kitchen is certified, your site can say so with the certifier's name.

Are the pictures of a real caterer?

No. Every picture on this demonstration was generated by a computer and says so on the picture. Your own food, photographed, replaces them.
