Demonstration site. Woodside Table, LLC is a fictional business invented for this demo — every phone number on it is literally 000-000-0000. The website itself is entirely real and built exactly as yours would be.

Why this design works for a restaurant

Built for how your customers actually decide

Two things sink most restaurant websites. The menu is a PDF, so nobody can read it on a phone and no search engine can read it at all. And the booking button hands your customers — and a cut of your covers — to a third-party platform.

This design fixes both. Every menu is real HTML: sixty dishes with prices, descriptions and component-level allergen information, updated the day the kitchen changes them. And the reservation system is yours, running on your own hosting, with no commission and no platform between you and the person eating.

The booking engine is the part worth looking at closely. A restaurant does not book a slot, it books a table for a window of time — so two reservations collide when their sittings overlap, not when they start at the same minute. This one allocates against a real floor plan of eighteen tables, applies a longer turn to larger parties, pushes two tables together when it has to, and routes anything over eight into a private dining enquiry instead of pretending it can seat them.

  • The menu is not a PDF

Sixty dishes as real text with prices and allergens, readable on a phone and indexable by Google. Every price on the page and in the structured data comes from one source, so the two cannot drift apart.

  • It books tables, not time slots

Two bookings clash when their sittings overlap, which is a different question from whether they start at the same time. The engine allocates against eighteen real tables, holds five-plus parties for two hours instead of ninety minutes, and joins two tables when nothing single fits.

  • It says how long you have the table

Before you book, not on a card when you sit down — with the arithmetic that makes it true. That single page does more for trust than any amount of atmospheric photography.

  • No commission, no platform

The reservation system runs on your own hosting. No per-cover fee, no third party owning your guest list, and no listing page competing with you for your own name.

Mobile first, not mobile afterthought

Most of your visitors will see this version

Local service searches are overwhelmingly done on phones, so the phone layout is the one we design first and test hardest. Text stays readable without zooming, the phone number stays reachable with a thumb, and nothing needs a horizontal scroll.

Every page, listed

What is actually on the site

37 indexable pages, each with its own title, description, structured data and a place in the sitemap. That is 37 chances to appear in a search instead of one.

The menus — five, all real pages

  • Dinner · Lunch · Weekend brunch · Bar and wine list · Children's menu
  • Sixty dishes with prices, descriptions and allergen components
  • Sticky section jump bar, so a long menu works on a phone
  • Menu, MenuSection and MenuItem structured data generated from the same source as the page

Reservations and rooms

  • Online table booking · Private dining · Large parties · Events and supper club
  • The bar · Walk-ins · Hours and directions · Coming for the first time
  • Staff floor view, waitlist and enquiry inbox behind a login

The pages that build trust

  • How long you have the table · Allergens and one kitchen · Dietary requirements
  • How the waitlist works · When we cancel a reservation · How tipping works here
  • Corkage · Outside food · Why the menu changes · Where the food comes from
  • What a menu photograph does not show · What we do not offer

The rest of the site

  • About · The people here · Careers · Press · Gift cards · The room
  • Neighbourhoods · FAQ · Contact
  • Accessibility, Terms, Privacy

Included — not an add-on

Table reservation system

PHP and MySQL, written from scratch — no plugin, no monthly SaaS fee, no per-cover commission, no third party owning your guest list. It runs on the same hosting as the website.

What your customers do

  • Party size is the first question, because it decides the turn time and which tables can even be searched
  • A month calendar showing which days genuinely have room for that many people
  • Times grouped by service, and a closed day says "we are closed on Mondays" rather than showing an empty list
  • Books with name, phone, email, dietary notes and an optional occasion
  • Confirm or cancel later from a signed link — no login, no password
  • A waitlist offering the nearest free times instead of a dead end

What your staff control

  • A floor view for tonight: arrivals in time order, party sizes, dietary notes, seat / no-show / walk-in
  • Move a booking to another table, with the same overlap check the public form uses
  • The manager sees the whole book, the waitlist, the enquiries and the guest list
  • A host sees today and tomorrow only — and that restriction is enforced in the code, not by hiding links
  • Edit the floor plan, the service times, the turn lengths and the closure dates yourself

What happens automatically

  • Confirmation email the moment a table is booked
  • Reminder email the day before, sent by cron
  • Unconfirmed tables are flagged on the floor view — never silently released
  • Parties of nine or more become a private dining enquiry rather than a confirmed table
  • Closing a date stops new bookings without cancelling the ones already in the book

The software runs on your own hosting and belongs to you. There is no monthly licence, no per-booking commission and no third party holding your customer list — which over a few years is usually worth more than the price of the website.

What $890 covers

Yours, not a copy of the demo

You get the same structure and design system with your business in it — your name, logo, colours, photographs, services, prices and locations, and every page rewritten for you. Two businesses starting from this design do not end up looking like each other.

Pages you do not need come out. Pages you need that are not there can be added at $90 each. The local SEO — titles, descriptions, structured data and the copy itself — is retargeted from Woodside to wherever you actually work.

  • Your domain name

Who this suits

A good fit if you run one of these

  • Neighbourhood restaurants taking reservations
  • Bistros and wine bars with a private dining room
  • Restaurants currently paying per cover to a booking platform
  • Any kitchen whose menu is still a PDF

Not quite your trade? Designs adapt more easily than people expect — the structure matters far more than the industry it was written for. Tell us what you do and we will say honestly whether this one fits.

Questions

About this design

Can it replace our current booking platform?

For most independent restaurants, yes — it takes reservations, holds tables against your real floor plan, emails confirmations and reminders, and gives your host a floor view for the night. What it does not do is put you on that platform's marketplace. If those listings genuinely bring you covers, keep both; if you are mainly paying a fee on people who already searched for you by name, this replaces it outright.

Our floor plan is not eighteen tables.

The floor plan is data, not code. Tell us your tables, their seats and which ones push together, and it is one screen in the admin — you can change it yourself afterwards. The same is true of your service times, your turn lengths and the party size at which a booking becomes an enquiry.

We change the menu constantly. Is that a problem?

It is the reason the menus are built this way. Editing a dish is editing one line, and the page, the price and the search-engine data all update together. That is precisely what a PDF menu cannot do.

Can it handle allergies properly?

It tracks allergens at component level and deliberately will not describe a finished plate as safe for a severe allergy — the demo has a whole page explaining why a single-kitchen restaurant cannot honestly make that claim. If your kitchen has a genuinely separate preparation area, we say so instead. Either way the site tells the truth about your building.

Do we get the staff side too?

Yes. A manager sees the whole book, the waitlist, the enquiries, the room and the guest list; a host sees today and tomorrow — arrivals, party sizes, dietary notes, seat and no-show, walk-ins, and moving a booking to another table. The restriction is real rather than cosmetic.
